Ask A Question

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is it Blue?
A: The blue color has been recognized as the most easily seen color in food processing environments. There are relatively few foods that are naturally blue in color, so any blue colored objects that are visible in the production line process areas merit a second look. This is normally the first security scan for foreign item contamination.

Q: Does this belting material pass food approval standards?
A: Yes, ALL MAGNETHANE™ Belting Products conform to FDA food contact as described in book 21, section 177.2600 and 177.1680, for both wet and dry food contact applications respectively. We have been further approved for direct food contact under the USDA Meat and Poultry Equipment Program Accepted Equipment List. (USDA Equipment Acceptance Certificate. Date of Issuance January 7, 2010)

Q: I have read the METAL DETECTION REPORT for BELTING, but I don't know how to draw a conclusion from this data.
A: The report shows that the product samples tested, (IE Blue V, Blue Flat, Blue Round, and Brown Round) showed a positive response in the metal detector at various lengths for the sample sections submitted.
The values of the test are the sphere sizes represented by the diameter of iron Spheres (FE) in millimeters. If you look at line 7 of the Belting Detection Report, packaged goods are normally scanned for sphere sizes between 1.5mm and 5.00mm.
As you can see, MAGNETHANE™ falls in the middle of that range, which is very good! MAGNETHANE™ products are able to be "seen” at normal settings and customers do not need to reset machinery to look for orphaned pieces at a special settings.

Q: Can MAGNETHANE™ pieces be removed from the food stream by using magnets?
A: MAGNETHANE™ is intended to be a last alert detection option for food manufacturers and packaging operations. We DO NOT recommend that you use this practice of magnetic retrieval. The removal of small pieces from the food stream should be done mechanically as a result of the detection signal generated from MAGNETHANE™ products. We allow the metal detector to “see” the belting so that the customer may physically deal with it.
Our products are offered from the “DETECTION” platform not as an “EXTRACTION” program.

Q: What is the widest width of MAGNETHANE™ flat belting?
A: Current production runs are in widths of 26" for all sizes 1 mm - 6.3 mm (1/4). Future runs may be as wide as 48" or 72".

Q: How do I join the belt ends together?
A: C. M. Products Company manufactures a Belt Welder System which will join both profile and flat belts. A smooth joint area is desirable where the ends have been welded together. This smooth joint style is necessary to be in compliance with currently accepted equipment reviews of this product.

Q: Are there reinforced versions of MAGNETHANE™?
A: Yes, we currently make several profile belts with Kevlar reinforcement cords. Future plans include reinforced flat belt.

Q: Do you plan on having other durometers?
A: Yes, we are planning on having higher durometers for more heavy duty, longer run applications in the future.

Q: How do we get a sample of MAGNETHANE™?
A: Go to our Contact Us page and request it.

Q: Any plans for a Rough Top version of MAGNETHANE™?
A: Yes, tests are being conducted currently, with production release later this year.
